Governor Chris Christie weighed into the North vs. South Democrat casino civil war on Friday ahead of a Baltimore fundraiser.
“I have already clearly stated my support for the expansion of gaming to Northern New Jersey given the economic growth and job creation it will bring to our State. We should advance this item before the end of the legislative session,” the Governor demanded. ” It is disturbing that infighting within the Democratic party over competing gaming bills may deprive the voters of the ability to consider this question in November. Right now, it appears that ACR-2 does not have sufficient support to move forward in the Assembly. If that is the case, inaction should not be an option. The only remaining course of action to put the ball in the end zone on this important issue is to post SCR-185 for a vote in the Assembly on Monday after its passage in the Senate. Delay puts the expansion of gaming in peril. That is not in the interests of anyone in New Jersey, North or South.”
Unsurprisingly given the history behind this issue, Christie’s position doesn’t completely jive with some of his party’s more-vocal Assembly members.
Both Assemblyman Chris Brown (R-2), a noted Christie critic, and Holly Schepisi (R-39), one of the NJ GOP’s more fiercely independent legislators, slammed the entire constitutional amendment process partisan push in committee on Thursday, with Brown focusing on the effects of the casino bill and Schepisi directing her criticism to the pace and lack of candor:
____
Very t.houghtful and serious response by Assemblyman Chris Brown (NJ). Christie and Sweeney have really hurt Southern New Jersey’s economy.
A casino in Jersey City would never be a tourist attraction, at least AC still has a few things that bring in tourists .
Atlantic City has failed and is an obsolete dinosaur. No more bailouts or charity for Loserville.
#DirtyDemocrats
Does this mean Christie’s 5 year plan for AC is not working out so well?

That should be the end of North Jersey casinos. The Assembly Dems will NEVER support this bill now!
