‘Mops for Christie’ GoFundMe campaign page going viral

Some people may have a little too much time on their hands and misplaced priorities.

After the Governor responded to a question about why he was on the campaign trail instead of visiting New Jersey towns by flippantly saying “You want me to go down there with a mop?,” many of his critics took to social media to complain about his lack of empathy. The sound bite may have seemed harsh but the Gov’s entire response was pointed and logical (even if, again, you felt it was insensitively-delivered).

Ironically, the same people who took issue with the Governor focusing on his campaign are now raising money. Not for the victims that Governor Christie was supposedly neglecting but to…. buy mops. No joke!

The GoFundMe account – ‘Mops for Christie – was created in an effort to raise $1,000 to send mops to the Governor as a comical protest of sorts. The page’s creators calls on participants to “join together by raising funds to Mop up the mess we have in Trenton. Funds will be used to send as many mops as possible to the Governor of New Jersey.”

The page has already raised $340 as of this writing and been shared over a thousand times on social media.

Wouldn’t those monies be better spent helping the victims? Even if you think Governor Christie did step over the line with his comments and behavior?

  1. It is a great idea to reinforce the lack of empathy the Governor had leaving NJ prior to assessing the flooded areas. My suggestion is a dozen or so mops should be purchased. An event should be set up in Trenton to deliver the mops symbolically. The rest of the proceeds should go directly to the flood victims to help them literally clean up.
