A former key member of Chris Christie’s inner circle is not only balking at supporting the GOP nominee, Save Jerseyans, but she’s going Democrat.
CNN was first to report on Tuesday afternoon that former Christie spokesperson Maria Comella is voting for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Her decision runs contrary to the decision of her former boss to publicly and intimately throw in behind the Trump candidacy.
“I believe Chris Christie was the best person to be the nominee and unfortunately, that didn’t happen. My decision is my own and I know from working with the Governor that he has the utmost respect for people expressing their own opinions,” Comella told the network.
Comella and other key Christie advisers were reportedly left out of the Trump endorsement decision, an unusual move by the New Jersey Governor.
She left the Governor’s service not long afterwards.
“I’m voting for Hillary Clinton in November and I’m voting for her because I don’t believe it’s enough to say you aren’t for Donald Trump. My mom and dad were Republicans, but they didn’t always vote Republican,” Comella continued. “There are times when principle trumps (no pun intended) party and we have to be okay with acknowledging that.”
