Here’s another entry for this year’s increasingly busy N.J. GOP primary calendar, Save Jerseyans….
Save Jersey has learned that Jo Bubba Jr. of Wayne, son of retired State Senator Joe Bubba, has formally entered the LD40 Assembly race.
“I am blessed to have the support of Passaic County Chairman John Traier and Bergen County Chairman Paul DiGaetano,” explained Bubba in a statement emailed to Save Jersey.
This cycle’s LD40 primary battle royale was initiated by the retirement announcements of state Senator Kevin O’Toole and Assemblyman David C. Russo as well as the elevation of Assemblyman Scott Rumana to the Superior Court.
Former Wyckoff Mayor Kevin Rooney won a special committee election late last year to replace Rumana; Rooney is running on a ticket with Passaic County Clerk Kristin Corrado (for Senate) and fellow former Wyckoff Mayor Christopher DePhillips (for Assembly).
The Corrado-Rooney-DePhillips team is running against BCRO Chairman Paul DiGaetano who Bubba reports is supporting his own run and former State Senator Norm Robertson who’s also seeking one of two LD40 Assembly nominations.
An interesting bit of N.J. political history? Robertson earned his Senate Seat by primarying and defeating Bubba’s father.
LD40 includes (1) the Bergen County municipalities of Allendale, Franklin Lakes, Ho-Ho-Kus, Midland Park, Ridgewood, Waldwick, and Wyckoff, (2) the Morris County municipalities of Riverdale and Pequannock Township, (3) the Passaic County municipalities of Little Falls, Pompton Lakes, Totowa, Wayne, and Woodland Park, and (4) the sole Essex County township of Cedar Grove.
