Mastrangelo’s a No-Go for LD26 Senate

Tom Mastrangelo

Morris Freeholder Thomas J. Mastrangelo will NOT challenge sitting Republican State Senator Joe Pennacchio this year, Save Jerseyans, leaving the pitched battle for Assembly (which features two of Mastrangelo’s colleagues) as LD26’s sole contested battle.

Here’s the note he shared with friends via social media on filing day (Monday):

Dear Friends,

Trenton should look to Morris County as a model for how to run government. My record includes stopping tax increases three years in a row, cutting debt by tens of millions of dollars, and achieving the highest possible independent bond rating that verifies our smart, fiscal stewardship of taxpayer dollars over the last few years. As a small businessman, I’ve always felt the call to public service and using my experience to bring relief to taxpayers by making government more nimble, efficient and responsive to the people we serve.

“Over the last two months I’ve reflected with family and friends on whether to fight for taxpayers and bring that positive record to Trenton. While I felt strongly that I could be successful based on the overwhelming support to run, as a loyal Republican I felt there was already unhealthy discord in the 26th District. I did not want to contribute to that further. Therefore, I will not be running for state legislature in the Republican Primary and will continue fighting for taxpayers as County Freeholder.

“I will continue to assess my future and seek ways to serve on behalf of Morris County’s taxpayers, families and seniors. I’m optimistic that those opportunities to serve lay ahead.

Thank you,

Tom Mastrangelo
Freeholder
County of Morris
