Langschultz Goes After Gordon for ‘Lack of Leadership’ During NJ Transit Crisis

Kelly Langschultz

The pain for NJ Transit commuters isn’t over,  Save Jerseyans, after news broke on Tuesday that customers face a 44 day period of repairs from July 7 to July 25 and then between August 4th to August 28th.

A leading Election 2017 candidate wants to know why her incumbent opponent isn’t asking more (and better) questions.

“There has been a serious lack of leadership from Senator [Bob] Gordon on this,” said Kelly Langschultz (R-New Milford) in a statement obtained by Save Jersey. “We need our representative to be going further than politely suggesting a limit on the inconvenience of these riders. They should be compensated for having to put their lives on hold to wait for a system that was allowed by people like Senator Gordon to lapse, to correct itself. I would like to see NJ Transit significantly reduce the prices of their tickets to NYC over that 44 day period.”

Senator Gordon is currently presiding over legislative hearings into New Jersey Transit’s operations but his efforts thus far have been viewed as tame, asking only “[w]hy not schedule some of the work for the last week of August when so many people take off from work heading into Labor Day weekend?”as opposed to demanding substantive reforms.

NJ Transit incompetence isn’t new, but an early spring derailment that snarled transportation in the Northeast for days has brought new attention to the problem.

Langschultz’s challenge to Gordon is considered one of this year’s most competitive New Jersey legislative contests and among the GOP’s best  opportunities for a pick up.
