New Jersey lost 7,600 jobs in May

TRENTON, N.J. – The Garden State’s economy lost 7,600 non-farm and salary jobs in May 2019 despite the national job market adding 75,000 positions.

New Jersey has gained a net of 45,900 jobs since last May, but only 42,000 of those jobs are in the private sector and that’s well behind the pace of the national average for that same time period. It’s a further sign of likely weaknesses in the state economy and labor market and a cause for concern in the midst of a budget fight where Governor Phil Murphy is demanding higher taxes and fees.
