ICE’s acting director blasts N.J. AG Grewal for undermining Cape May, Monmouth sheriffs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – One week after New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal issued a new directive barring county jails from cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the head of America’s most unfairly-maligned law enforcement agency addressed the rogue AG directly during his Thursday press availability at the White House.

“I don’t understand how an attorney general, the chief law enforcement officer of the state, tells other law enforcement officers under his command to ignore the law,” said Matthew Albence, ICE’s acting director. Albence also lauded Cape May and Monmouth counties for their assistance; both counties are now pursuing legal action to defend their ability to assist federal immigration authorities.
