None other than Bill Clinton himself dropped into Bergen County on Saturday night to rally for Josh Gottheimer and the county Democrat slate which – if alleged internal polls are any indication – are nearing the end of a race that’s too close for the incumbents’ comfort. Gottheimer is a long-time Clintonista, and he’s clearly calling in all favors amid an increasingly difficult reelection contest of his own.
Another blast from the past haunted the ex-president’s visit.
A robocall which Save Jersey has confirmed was paid for by the campaign of Gottheimer’s GOP rival (Frank Pallotta) dropped into voicemail boxes across the NJ-05 portions of the North Jersey district on Saturday evening. The robocall features none other than Clinton sexual assault accuser Juanita Broaddrick offering a full-throated endorsement of the Bergen GOP slate.
“Todd Caliguire and Frank Pallotta are good men who respect women and will protect your children. They are men you can be proud of as your county executive and congressman,” Broaddrick said in the recording.
Broaddrick also echoed her decades-old accusation that Clinton raping her in 1978; a former nurse, she became one of the ex-Arkansas governor’s most prominent and visible accusers in the 1990s.
