Platkin sues N.J. school districts over gender identity parental notification policies

The Murphy Administration is accusing multiple New Jersey school districts of adopting policies which “expressly target transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender non-binary students by singling them out for differential treatment, requiring parental notification for those students but not their peers.”

But is that true? Or is this only the latest Murphy move to usurp parental authority?

On Thursday, General Matthew J. Platkin announced today the filing of multiple Division on Civil Rights (DCR) complaints directed at the Middletown Township, Marlboro Township, and Manalapan-Englishtown Regional Boards of Education. The AG’s office also filed emergency motions seeking preliminary injunctions. The argument: the districts are in violation of thr New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD).

“In New Jersey, we will not tolerate any action by schools that threatens the health and safety of our young people. Without question, the discriminatory policies passed by these Boards of Education, if allowed to go into effect, will harm our kids and pose severe risk to their safety,” said Platkin who, two days before announcing the new complaints, randomly tweeted out a pronoun guide. “Simply put, these policies violate our laws, and we will not relent in protecting our LGBTQ+ community—especially our children—from discrimination.”

For example, in Middletown, teachers need to notify parents when a student wants to utilize a different name, bathroom, or set of gender “pronouns.”

“On June 20, 2023, the [Middletown] Board passed a revised version of its Policy 5756 that discriminates against transgender students and certain gender non-conforming, non-binary, genderqueer and other gender-expansive students […] in clear violation of New Jersey law,” the Middletown complaint alleges. “‘Outing’ these students against their will poses serious mental health risks; threatens physical harm to students, including risking increased suicides; decreases the likelihood students will seek support; and shirks the district’s obligation to create a safe and supportive learning environment for all. Indeed, LGBTQ+1 students in New Jersey and elsewhere have died by suicide after being outed.”

Under the Murphy regime, guidance has been imposed on school districts which does not allow for parental consent.

This is your tax dollars at work, Save Jerseyans!

Actually, doubly at work. Because now towns will need to pay lawyer (your money) to defend against suits from the state AG (whose office runs on your money), and there’s the added possibility of state aid reductions or even a state takeover in the event that the districts are unsuccessful in defending against the administration’s insane policies.
