There was a political earthquake of sorts tonight in Monmouth County, Save Jerseyans:
Former News 12 report Alex Zdan is the winner of the Monmouth County line, winning the local convention 111 to 83 over Cape May developer Curtis Bashaw after both candidates failed to secure 50% on the first ballot.
Christine Glassner finished a distant third and was eliminated on the first ballot.
Zdan’s win in a county where Bashaw was favored likely makes Middlesex and, to a greater extent, Bergen counties’ respective March conventions loom larger than ever.
Bashaw did win a mighty consolation prize earlier in the evening: Ocean County, the state’s single largest generator of Republican primary votws.
