Curtis Bashaw may’ve moved closer to securing the GOP U.S. Senate nomination on Thursday night, scoring significant wins in his home base of Cape May County and two hours ways in Middlesex County.
Bashaw unanimously won all 121 votes cast at the Cape May convention held in Rio Grande. Christine Glassner, the mayor of Mendham, remained on the ballot but didn’t lobby for votes and finished without any.
The developer and hotelier’s margin in Middlesex wasn’t much less impressive (117-16), while ex-News 12 reporter Alex Zdan finished in third place with 7 votes. Another candidate – Albert Harshaw – nabbed 3 votes.
Bashaw has now won every county in South Jersey that awards a line in addition to Somerset, Mercer and Middlesex counties. His county lines cumulatively represent slighly more than 40% of the total GOP primary vote cast in 2020. Zdan’s counties (Monmouth and Passaic) equate to approximately 15%, while Glassner’s work out to about 18%.
All eyes are now on Bergen, the state’s most populous county and a correspondingly big bucket of GOP primary votes.
