Andy Kim says he would’ve voted against TikTok ban… but skipped the vote?

New Jersey’s present U.S. House delegation was unanimous today in its support for the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act.” If adopted by the Senate and signed into law by Joe Biden, the rare bipartisan bill would give Chinese tech company ByteDance a choice: divest itself of TikTok or face a total ban of the popular application in the United States.

One New Jersey representative – Andy Kim (D, NJ-03) – missed the vote but says he would’ve been a “no.”

Kim released a statement (see below) arguing that “there are more steps and deliberations needed before we in Congress should take the proposed action in this legislation.”

He would’ve been in the minority: the vote was 352-65, a rarity in the evenly-divided, hyper-partisan chamber.

The South Jersey congressman is presently locked in a competitive contest to succeed Bob Menendez in the U.S. Senate and will rely heavily on younger Leftists should he succeed at pulling off an upset in the June primary.
