Kean criticizes challenger, Columbia alumnus Atlman for silence amid riot

The Columbia University student newspaper highlighted Sue Altman back in March for being an alumnus running for Congress.

Notwithstanding the eyes of the world turning to Columbia as the NYPD moves to quell a pro-Hamas riot on the campus, Altman has remained conspicuously silent. Her abstention from the hottest discussion in the country this week comes mere days after her April 25th visit to the Rutgers University Democrats. Days later, Rutgers became the latest U.S. campus to experience protests.

The campaign of Congressman Tom Kean Jr. (R-7), Altman’s fall opponent, decided to break the ice.

“Rallying with students ahead of known and planned protests against Israel shows Silent Sue Altman’s disregard for the safety and well-being of Jewish students,” said Kean MacLelland who serves as campaign manager for Kean for Congress. “Her silence in the face of antisemitism is a clear sign of her lack of leadership and moral courage, instead allowing herself to be beholden to the most fringe elements of her party.”

The Kean for Congress campaign is specifically calling “on Sue Altman to break her silence and to condemn antisemitic acts on New Jersey college campuses without reservation.”

This year’s NJ-07 match-up is expected to be among the country’s most competitive.
