I make no apologies for vocally supporting Donald J. Trump this year. It might be one of the most important things I’ll ever do for my kids. I truly believe that.
If you know me, then you know that I’ve always been a limited government conservative Republican. Nothing new there! I’m an opinionated guy, true, but always willing to listen to (and debate) other people’s perspectives in good faith. My friends come in different shapes, sizes, and party affiliations (or lack thereof). Yet after 17+ years of being immersed in politics and government as a journalist, activist and attorney, I can say now without any reservation:
The system is broken. Badly. It’s stopped working especially for the people who need it to work most, and Kamala Harris (and her party) bear most of the blame. Inflation is out of control. War is breaking out all over the globe. And wokeness is dividing our country by making it impossible to have a simple conversation with our friends and neighbors and, in some cases, family. Not willing or able to persuade adults, Democrats now cajole using the courts, the Media, and the education system to cow full-grown opponents and groom future voters.
The Democrat Party of JFK is gone. The working man and woman long forgotten. His nephew left for a reason.
All the same, I held my nose voting for him in 2016 and a little less tightly in 2020.
This time? I’d crawl across broken glass to cast a ballot. Donald Trump isn’t perfect, but as he’s correctly noted many times, the same Deep State that’s tried to slander, bankrupt, incarcerate, and assassinate him is actually aiming for you and me. We’re the real target. President Trump simply made the bold and brave decision to stand in their way instead of passing his golden years enjoying his family and wealth. He’s sacrificed for us, not because he’s a saint but because he believes in America. He’s not trying to apologize for it or “fundamentally transform” it. His express, singular goal is to save it.
What he’s built in the process of surviving the slings and arrows? The broadest coalition that the GOP has seen since the 1980s.
I’m not going to ask for your vote. I’m not running for anything. I am asking you to consider whether your reluctance towards Trump is rooted in policy, logic and reality, or if you’re allowing personal feelings and the dictates of fashion to cloud your judgment when so much is quite literally hanging in the balance.
Only you know, but you need to figure it out before 8PM on Tuesday. They’re going to be reading about this election for a long, long time in the schools. It’s a “fork in the road.” Choose wisely. I’ve tried to, and I hope you can believe me when I say it. I’m a lot of things – again, most of you know me well – but a liar isn’t one of them.
May God bless you, America, and everything it stands for. See you on the other side.
