Not-So-Funny

With about three months to go before legislative elections, Asm. Jon Bramnick (R-Union) staged a presser on Wednesday afternoon flanked by assorted members of his current GOP caucus and 2013 Republican challengers.

The purpose? To kick off a statewide “‘Not-So-Funny’ Comedy Tour” intended to highlight reasons for voters to turn the General Assembly’s keys over to Republicans in November. Bramnick, an amateur comedian, released a web video to coincide with the announcement which I’m told was his brainchild:

The video is a lot like the current GOP caucus, Save Jerseyans: somewhat amusing but hopelessly “inside” and of questionable effectiveness…

I’ve continued to argue – to the point of exasperation – that a positive, well-articulated but unambiguously strong contrast sells better than camp (exhibit A above) or concessions just for compromise’s sake, but unfortunately for those of us who would genuinely love to see a Republican majority in January, pale pastels are some Republicans’ preferred fall colors.

Good intentions paved the road to hell; another legislature with Sheila Oliver and Steve Sweeney at the helm can’t be described any other way!

We’ll still give him partial credit for trying. Bramnick’s first “not-so-funny” event is scheduled for today at 2 p.m. on the campus of Campbell Comfort Systems in West Deptford (Senate President Sweeney’s hometown).

He’ll be joined by Mayor Ray Chintall, West Deptford Committeeman Sam Cianfarini, Gloucester County Freeholder Larry Wallace and Wallace’s LD3 Assembly running mate, Salem County Freeholder Bob Vanderslice, to discuss issues facing small businesses.
