LD2: Toto dives into 2019 Assembly primary field

Outgoing Congressman Frank LoBiondo (R, NJ-02) with Jim Toto, one of eight GOP candidates vying to replace him.

SOMERS POINT, N.J. — Somers Point Councilman James Toto is in for the 2019 LD2 Assembly race.

“Atlantic County needs to be treated as a priority in this state. Our current Assembly representatives are not meeting their obligations,” said Toto in his Monday morning release. “The people of Atlantic County deserve better from their representatives in the assembly and I have the experience, knowledge and tenacity to get the job done”

Toto is a military veteran and a former NJ-02 primary candidate.

In a preview of things to come, the new candidate aimed directly at Democrat Governor Phil Murphy in his statement.

“In the military we had Murphy’s Law: anything that can go wrong, will go wrong and at the worst possible moment. Now, thanks to the ineffective leadership of Atlantic County’s assemblypeople we have Governor Murphy’s Law: anything that can be taxed, will be taxed and at the highest possible rate,” added Toto.

Republican Atlantic County Freeholder Chairman Frank Formica and Ventnor Mayor Beth Maccagnano Holtzman announced their candidacies on Sunday. The two highest voter getters in June will face the Democrat incumbents Vince Mazzeo and James Armato next November, but the Atlantic County GOP’s spring convention frequently narrows the field in this district completely contained inside the relatively-populous Shore county.
