BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Republican rebels in Bridgewater – ground zero of the insurrection against the county GOP organization – are about to get a boost down the homestretch from a Jets football great.
On May 21st, seven-time Jets Pro Bowler and Offensive Lineman Nick Mangold, released from the team in 2017 after eleven seasons, will be the special guest at a fundraiser for Council President Matthew Moench (the candidate for Mayor) and Michael Kirsh and Timothy Ring, Moench’s aligned candidates for Township Council.

The event is hosted by Councilman Howard Norgalis, Councilman Filipe Pedroso, and Freeholder Patrick Scaglione. Tickets range from $150 for general admittance to $500 for the host committee.
Moench is challenging the incumbent GOP mayor in this June’s primary, and Somerset GOP Chairman Al Gaburo’s performance as leader of the county’s embattled Republican organization has been a primary focus of Moench’s attack as has the over-development of Bridgewater itself. The incumbent Dan Hayes is showering voters with mailers and is up on television (something unusual for a local primary contest in the suburbs) with Fox News and the YES Network (which broadcasts the New York Yankees games) advertising spots.
Mangold, for his part, briefly flirted with a candidacy for the NJ-11 House seat heading into the 2018 cycle.
