Webber, Bergen win LD26 Assembly GOP primary

Assemblymen Jay Webber and Brian Bergen – two of the legislature’s most outspoken conservatives – will return to Trenton next year.

The pair won a pair of party nominations in LD26 on Tuesday night; Webber took an early lead in first place, and Bergen (redistricting from LD25 where he currently serves) held off ex-LD26 Assemblywoman Betty Lou DeCroce and former Parsippany Councilman Robert Peluso.

DeCroce was attempting a comeback for her former seat. She nevertheless raised little money, curiously tried to tag Bergen as too outspoken in the Assembly, and accused yours truly of participating in a conspiracy to rig a debate challenge. Needless to say, there was no demand to bring her back from the political abyss among primary base voters.

Webber and Bergen’s running mate State Senator Joe Pennacchio was also successful tonight; he defeated Morris Commissioner Tom Mastrangelo.
