Former Governor Mitt Romney did well yesterday afternoon in Ocean County, New Jersey.
Very well. About $1.5 million well!
Romney’s motorcade even managed to crash a Jewish Orthodox wedding en route to the Lakewood Township fundraiser venue (luckily, the happy couple was reportedly pro-Romney and took pictures with the presumptive nominee). Mazal tov!
I’m not sure how the wedding went, but plenty of NJGOP luminaries were in attendance with open hearts and wallets for Mitt including former Governor Tom Kean, Sr. and U.S. Senate candidate Joe Kyrillos. The high-grossing event, first reported here at Save Jersey, was attended by approximately 600 supporters though 800 tickets were reportedly sold; each went for an amount ranging from $1,000 to $25,000.
Notably absent from the festivities? Governor Chris Christie. Ironically, while Romney is raising money in New Jersey, Christie is out-of-state on another three-day fundraising swing, this time out in the Western United States. Specifically, Christie will headline five (5) separate Romney fundraisers in California, three (3) for Washington State GOP Gubernatorial candidate Rob McKenna, one (1) for the RGA (also in Washington State), and one (1) more in Montana for GOP Gubernatorial hopeful Rick Hill.
I got tired just typing that out, Save Jerseyans…
Not that this exceptionally busy strategy doesn’t make sense. California and New Jersey are top money states for the Romney campaign (#1 and #9 respectively) despite their consistently blue electoral status since 1988.
