Christie: “That was a stupid bill and I vetoed it”

By The Staff | The Save Jersey Blog

Candid thoughts from Gov. Christie on S-1594/A-4044:

NEIL CAVUTO: But let me ask you a little bit, at the same time this is going on, you pocket vetoed – which means you essentially never took it up – a bill that would have made recess mandatory in New Jersey elementary school. My kids want to know why you did that.

CHRIS CHRISTIE: Because I think their teachers should be able to decide and their administrators should be able to decide whether or not they have recess in any particular day. Another thing about that bill, Neil, was that it mandated outdoor recess. Well, you know, on a day like today in New Jersey, I don’t know that we’re going to want to have outdoor recess and the kids are going to want to have outdoor recess, but the state government would mandate it. This is crazy government run amok. What are we doing? With all the other problems we have to deal with, my legislature is worried about recess for kids from kindergarten to fifth grade? Part of my job as governor is to veto the stupid bills. That was a stupid bill and I vetoed it.

CAVUTO: Let me know next time how you feel about that measure.

  1. I read Gov. Christie’s reasoning and thought it made good sense. Of course, there will be those who won’t see it that way. But would they send their kids outside in a driving rain. No! So why mandate that teachers must do that. Gotta love NJ legislators! 😀

  2. I have a better solution than a veto Neil. The Governor is absolutely right, this is a stupid bill. Like most of what New Jerseys legislature passes. It’s not kindergarten to fifth graders that need a recess, it’s the looney liberals of New Jerseys legislature that need to have a recess permanently. The Governor has really held that state together , considering all the left wing wing nuts that are in the majority of the legislature.

  3. With a bill this idiotic, you have to question the legislators mental capacity as well as the people that vote them in over and over again. This is what useful idiots end up doing, some of those same useful idiots will undoubtedly come on to this forum and bash the governor for being a big fat idiot, perhaps they just happened to be looking in a mirror and not really paying attention, they are just doing what they have been told to do. I wonder how many of them will be tossing out milk and bread in a few days instead of making the appropriate french toast for this weekend’s snow storm. Yes I say they can’t even get that right.

  4. How about the legislators find a way to reduce the cost of living in NJ, before everyone has to start paying $50,000 a year in property taxes at the rate we are going.

All this useless legislation they are trying to pass is just a waste of taxpayer dollars to justify their fat wallets from the millions they make off the taxpayers. If they weren’t making that kind of money then they would give two s**ts about NJ
