Sipprelle & Holt Meet in First Debate

Yesterday Scott Sipprelle and Rush Holt squared off in the first of three debates to be held before November 2nd. This debate was held in a packed auditorium at Rider University. Much of the debate focused on the economy (of course) with Sipprelle forcing Holt to answer for his support of unpopular measures such as Obamacare, TARP, and the stimulus plan.

According to the latest poll from Monmouth University, Holt holds a slight lead over Sipprelle, 51% to 46% with much of that lead stemming from higher margins in Mercer and Hunterdon counties. However, when looking at the Monmouth County portion of the district, Sipprelle holds a significant lead of 58% to 38%. Depending on turnout numbers and how the vote falls in Middlesex and Somerset counties, this race could go either way.

With no history of holding huge leads in his races, Rush Holt is no stranger to a close election. In 2000 Holt narrowly defeated Dick Zimmer by less than 1,000 votes. The race was not formally decide until nearly a month after election day.

For all of you non-Monmouth County voters making this race so close for Holt, watch this commercial and than say with a straight face that you could still vote for this career politician who walks in lock step with Nancy Pelosi…
