Nepotism in New Jersey: It’s a Family Affair with YOUR Money!

New Jersey is home to plenty of infamous “families,” Save Jerseyans.

And I’m not talking about the Corleone/Soprano variety although there are some striking similarities.

The dictionary defines nepotism as “patronage bestowed or favoritism shown on the basis of family relationship, as in business and politics.” The goal is to enrich your own brood and, in doing so, secure your own position. Don Corleone said “A man who doesn’t spend time with his family can never be a real man.” What better way is there than to get your son a job at the DRPA or your wife a secretary position at a connected law firm or county office?

There’s a great story in today’s Courier Post by Jane Roh and Jeremy Rosen, covering several examples of nepotism in New Jersey politics. New Jersey corruption is hardly a new topic, but few citizens appreciate the extent to which the same people and their families continue to monopolize the benefit of our tax dollars. I highly recommend checking it out and forwarding Jane’s article to your friends and neighbors. Awareness is the first step towards reform.
