Why is Jeff Van Drew Afraid to Hang with Al Sharpton?

As it turns out, the first political surrogate for state Senator Jeff Van Drew (D-Cape May County) in Election 2011 will be…

Al Sharpton?

The infamous “Reverend Al” is coming to Vineland (Cumberland County) next Tuesday to do what he does best: agitate over an issue he doesn’t really understand. Specifically, he’s rallying with a local pubic employees to prevent the closure of the Vineland Development Center whose residents suffer from developmental disabilities; of course, there are plans for a merger and alternative placements in other facilities but, since there is an emotional element to the story, legislative Democrats will naturally seize this opportunity to demonize the Christie Administration.

Logic loses out to politics every time.

It’s also worth remembering that the City of Vineland is situated in South Jersey’s hotly contested First Legislative District, Save Jerseyans. LD1’s incumbent Democrat state senator (Van Drew) evidently shares Reverend Al’s position on the closure but, interesting enough, doesn’t intend to plan Tuesday’s event!

The Vineland Daily Journal reports Van Drew is working on a separate rally for next month. Why? If he’s not afraid to side against taxpayers, then why should he worry about getting his photo taken with one of America’s least credible liberal activists?
