Chris Cillizza is reporting that John Huntsman will exit the GOP Primary tomorrow and endorse Mitt Romney.
Huntsman never had a shot to win, Save Jerseyans.
His departure from the field could, however, hold special significance for the frontrunner.
Romney is currently leading Gingrich by 4.7% in South Carolina, 26.7% to 22%, according to the pretty accurate RCP Average. Huntsman was in last place with just 5.7%. Presumably these folks will now cross over to support the other Mormon candidate and buoy Mitt’s numbers? Every vote could count if the Palmetto State contest continues to tighten, and I don’t see how Gingrich, Santorum, Perry, etc. can continue if Mitt completes a historic hat trick by taking IA, NH and SC.
