Christie Approval Among Registered Voters at 56%; Booker Leads Democrat Challengers

The headline says it all, Save Jerseyans.

Governor Chris Christie’s approval rating among registered (not likely) New Jersey voters stands at 56% in a new poll released today by Quinnipiac University. Only 38% disapprove.

Interestingly, the poll found a tight race among registered voters in a hypothetical head-to-head 2013 general election match-up between Christie and Newark Mayor Cory “Bullied” Booker, with the Republican incumbent edging the potential Democrat challenger by 4-points (46% to 42%).

Richard Codey wasn’t far behind, losing 47% to 41%; all other named Democrats registered no better than the low to mid 30s.

All in all, it’s a very strong poll for Christie almost one year out from his reelection campaign’s day of judgment, but it’s also a reminder that Democrats continue to enjoy a roughly 700k voter registration advantage in the Garden State. Booker’s name recognition helps; still, it’s hard to imagine a New Jersey Democrat pulling worse than 42% in statewide race. A competent Democrat gubernatorial campaign can give Christie a run for his money no matter how high the Governor’s approval rating might be now heading into Election Day 2013.

Don’t expect a “walk,” folks.

  1. Christie will lose if he runs again, no one likes him or his policies, wait til someone runs against him and you will see his numbers go way down.
