New Polls Suggests Allegations Facing Menendez Substantially Affecting His Standing with the Public

Harper Polling released the results of a comprehensive survey Thursday afternoon, Save Jerseyans.
Most of its findings were unremarkable. Christie is crushing Buono, the Kean name still has currency in a GOP primary, New Jerseyans generally approve of the Sandy recovery efforts overseen by Governor Christie, etc. and so on.
The most interesting tidbit: 84% of respondents had “seen, read or heard anything in the news recently about Senator Robert Menendez” and, of that pool, 48% had a diminished opinion of him as a result.
Will any of this affect his career? Unlikely. Don’t look for justice on this earth! He’s not up for reelection until 2018. Who knows where we’ll be or what we’ll be talking about by then. What this poll does confirm for me is that it MATTERS when the media doesn’t do its job. Could the revelations and allegations concerning his relationship with Florida donor have impacted the 2012 race? We’ll never know for sure. The relevant point is that some folks in the Fourth Estate were determined never to find out. They know who they are, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
