Another day, another establishment endorsement for Steve Lonegan in his quest to succeed Frank Lautenberg in the U.S. Senate. He received the formal backing of Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-02) this morning:
New Jersey needs a conservative fighter for lower taxes, less government intrusion and pro-growth economic policies,” LoBiondo said in a statement obtained by Save Jersey. “I support Steve Lonegan for the U.S. Senate and believe he is the best candidate for the job.”
The sands of politics are always shifting, Save Jerseyans. A few years ago, Lonegan backed primary challenges to three GOP Congressmen including LoBiondo. In a letter, Lonegan said at the time that “[o]ur state had the dubious distinction of seeing three of those prosperity destroying votes cast by New Jersey Republican Congressmen Leonard Lance, Frank LoBiondo, and Chris Smith.” [Emphasis Added]
Lance (R-07) has also endorsed Lonegan, as have Scott Garrett (R-05) and Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11).
