With establishment candidates taking a pass and Governor Christie deciding to appoint a “placeholder” to fill Frank Lautenberg’s vacated U.S. Senate seat, the path is now clear for Steve Lonegan to secure the GOP nomination.
For now at least, Save Jerseyans. It was an unthinkable possibility after the Christie machine beat back Lonegan’s attack-oriented primary campaign in 2009. Now, with the Christie folks outwardly ambivalent towards engaging a Booker-driven Senate contest, the former Bogota and AFP-NJ director is hunting endorsement. The first biggie is from Bob Yudin, chairman of the Republican Party in New Jersey’s most populous county.
“There is no better candidate Republicans can run this year than Steve Lonegan because there’s no one who can expose Obama’s disastrous agenda better than he can” Yudin said in a press release from the Lonegan campaign. “The massive grass-roots team he has built in less than 48 hours is a sign of the enthusiasm behind his candidacy that will lead to victory on October 16th.”
“And as a strong supporter of Israel I can say there will be no bigger ally in the Senate for the Jewish State than Senator Steve Lonegan,” Yudin continued. “I am proud to stand with him today.”
Save Jersey was the first to confirm Lonegan’s candidacy on Wednesday.
Is this a joke? Lonegan? The guy is a liar and has no chance of winning.
