Rand Paul Ribs Christie in SC

rand and ron paulBuilding on criticism lodged last week in a committee hearing, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) continued to take shots at Governor Chris Christie on Monday, Save Jerseyans, this time from the Harbour Club in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, a key 2016 primary battleground.

“The main theme of his candidacy seems to be, I got you a lot of federal money,” Paul reportedly responded when asked why he considers the New Jersey Governor a “moderate” Republican (h/t theRun2016). “It doesn’t sound like a conservative message.  It sounds like a moderate to big government message.”

Christie has repeatedly rebuffed the “moderate” tag, most recently during an Election Day chat with Jake Tapper.

“I’m not arguing against aid,” Paul continued. “I’m just arguing that the fiscally responsible way to do that aid would’ve been one year at a time and offsetting it with spending cuts elsewhere.” We can’t really disagree with him there.

Rand and the Governor of New Jersey appear to be on a collision course. Their public spat earlier this year made national headlines. More recently, Paul stumped for Steve Lonegan in New Jersey and appears ready to work with the man who bested Lonegan in the U.S. Senate special election, his Senate colleague Cory Booker (D-Twitter), on drug sentencing reform.

A recent poll of South Carolina voters put Christie ahead of Paul by 6-points in a very crowded hypothetical GOP primary field.

  1. What is friggin' wrong with Paul, looks like he hated that our beloved Guv stole the national spotlight from him and Cruz, as well!! They ARE damn jealous of Gov's continuous popularity all over the national media outlets and all kinds of folks nationwide…. GROW UP, Tea partiers, enough of this!

  2. Given the choice between Governor Chris Christie and Rand Paul, I'll take the Guv without any hesitation.
