He had less than $18,000 cash on hand as of April 1st and he doesn’t own a single county line heading into the June 3rd primary, Save Jerseyans, but for Reagan campaign staffer Jeff Bell is still forging ahead in this year’s low-dollar U.S. Senate primary.
On Wednesday, he announced the backing of a fiscal conservative luminary: Steve Forbes.
“Jeff Bell’s message of economic revival through a gold-backed dollar is the right prescription for what is holding back the U.S. economy,” Forbes said in a statement released by the campaign. “As someone who helped get Ronald Reagan’s tax cut plan off the ground, he knows how to translate big ideas into successful politics.”
Has anyone seen this guy anywhere? Jeff Bell is trying to buy the nomination with flashy endorsements and big name fundraisers. He’s too old and unexciting & his platform is too confusing for the mainstream electorate. He makes Murray Sabrin look downright electable.
This race is a ’78 repeat: a year where the national mood is swinging wide to the right but a hugely popular celebrity is the Democratic nominee. We’ve seen Jeff Bell lose that election, and I don’t think we can afford a re-run.
Does anybody care what Steve Forbes still thinks? He’s as relevant to New Jersey politics as Snooki.
