It wasn’t even close.

Incumbent Assemblyman Parker Space (R-24) and his running mate, Sussex Freeholder Gail Phoebus, cruised in Tuesday’s LD24 Republican primary, the only one on the GOP side of the aisle that anyone thought could be remotely competitive given that one seat was open (Alison Littell McHose isn’t seeking reelection). h/t to veteran operative Lou Crescitelli for proving otherwise.

Space (8,738) and Phoebus (8,212) easily bested Nathan Orr of Branchville (2,555) and former Green Mayor Marie Bilik (2,461).

Sussex Chairwoman Ailish Hambel had announced days ago that she’ss stepping down next week in part because “[a]fter Tuesday the party will need healing and I am not in a position to lead the charge.”

Maybe the party isn’t as divided as we’d been told after Tuesday’s landslide?
