UPDATED: Chris Christie suspends campaign

Having won no delegates and – at 7.4% of the vote with 95% reporting – unlikely to qualify for Saturday’s upcoming South Carolina debate, Save Jerseyans, Governor Chris Christie is expected to suspend suspended his campaign for president.

ABC originally said the news would come any moment:

Then CNN confirmed that Christie had called his campaign late Wednesday afternoon to announce his decision.

The only questions are what comes next and who he gets behind (Kasich? Trump? Bush?).

Your Blogger-in-Chief’s parting thought:

Governor Christie would be our presumptive nominee TODAY had he either run in 2012 OR run in 2013 and 2016 like he did in 2009 back when I first believed, a point I must’ve made 1,000 times over the last year. He didn’t so it’s over. It’s that brutally simple. I’m as sad as anyone today given the reality of squandered potential and opportunities lost for our country, state and party.
