Menendez’s buddy Melgen gets 17 years in prison

Dr. Salomon Melgen of Florida, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez’s former co-defendant in a federal corruption indictment, got hammered with a lengthy 17-year sentence on Thursday in addition to $42.6 million in Medicare restitution.

Melgen and Menendez are long-time friends.

Melgen is also a Menendez donor who stood accused of bribing Menendez in a separate, highly-publicized case. 

Menendez, who is up for reelection this year, saw the bribery-related charges against him abandoned by the Justice Department in the wake of a mistrial.
