MAHWAH, N.J. – Frank Pallotta, one of the New Jersey Republican candidates seeking his party’s 2020 nomination in the Fifth Congressional District, had harsh words for his district’s Democrat incumbent Josh Gottheimer following Halloween’s House impeachment vote.
“Josh Gottheimer showed his true colors today. New Jersey’s Fifth District supported President Trump and wants Congress to focus on delivering commonsense solutions on pressing issues like immigration and prescription drug prices,” said Pallotta in a statement. “In his vote, Josh seeks to upend the will of the district he supposedly represents in order to cater to Nancy Pelosi and liberal activists who have been after this President since Day 1. Our district deserves a representative who will truly represent our interests, and when I’m in Congress, I will end our participation in these ridiculous partisan fights.”
All but two House Democrats – including NJ-02’s Jeff Van Drew – voted for the Pelosi-backed resolution which sets for rules fot he forthcoming impeachment proceedings.
The vote was largely theater. Democrats still have more secret hearings on the calendar, and today’s resolution does not bind them to televise hearings or release transcripts.
Three Republicans including Pallotta are presently seeking the NJ-05 nomination, two of which (including Pallotta) qualified for the NRCC’s Young Gun program watch list. The district narrowly voted for President Trump in 2016.
