Op-Ed: Frank Pallone is an abortion extremist

As a woman, a mother, a grandmother and an American, I welcome the U.S Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v, Wade.

The Court did not ban abortion, contrary to the narrative that my opponent and his radical colleagues on the left are now promoting. The Court sent the issue back to the States, where the peoples’ representatives in the State Legislatures will debate and regulate the issue. In New Jersey, access to abortion is not likely to change.

Yet, voters in the 6th Congressional District of New Jersey deserve to know where I stand on this issue. I am Pro Life.

When I was a young nursing student many years ago, I witnessed an abortion as part of my training. The experience was deeply disturbing.

In my lifetime, I have known women who have had abortions and I know women who came very close but couldn’t terminate their pregnancy.

I don’t know anyone who chose to give birth ever regretting it-whether they raised their baby or gave it up for adoption. I do however remember the pain and remorse others felt after terminating their pregnancy, and always wondering if they did the right thing. Many of them are haunted with questions and guilt.

In my view, abortion should be rare and only performed when medically necessary.

Mothers and fathers should teach their children that life is a precious gift. Sexual safety and responsibility should be taught at home and in high school. Contraception should be taught and readily available to all sexually active people.

As a Member of Congress, I will never support legislation that restricts or limits access to contraception.

For me, being Pro Life means supporting the whole life. As a society, we need to do a better job supporting women who are confronted with unwanted pregnancies. We need to do a better job supporting the children of those pregnancies. This doesn’t necessarily mean bigger government. In my short political career in Monmouth County, we  have had success empowering the non-profits who support our families in need through a program I facilitated called “Monmouth Acts.” As a Member of Congress, I will promote these types of public/private empowerments as a national model.

Being Pro Life and supporting the whole life also means creating a family friendly economy. On this front my opponent and his radical left colleagues are abject failures.

As a Member of Congress, I will support legislation and policies that reduce inflation, create affordable energy, and that create opportunity for all.

The people of the 6th District deserve the same explanation from their current career Congressman.

My opponnent, Congressman Frank Pallone Jr, characterizes my position as extremist, anti-woman and anti-family.  Nothing can be further than the truth. On the contrary, Pallone is the extremist on this issue.

Congressman Pallone supports Governor Murphy’s current legislation that would allow abortions in the 9th month of pregnancy. Murphy and Pallone would allow abortions to be performed by someone other than a medical doctor.  They would allow 15 year old daughters to have abortions without parental notification.

As this campaign unfolds, I am confident that the voters of the 6th Congressional District will conclude that I am the candidate that best represents their values and that after 34 years, it is time to make a change in who represents them in Washington.
