Here come the feds, Save Jerseyans,
Merrick Garland’s Justice Department announced on Monday that it is dispatching hundreds of assets to “monitor compliance with federal voting rights laws” in no less than 64 jurisdictions across 24 states.
One of those jurisdictions is deeply Democratic Middlesex County.
“The Civil Rights Division will also take complaints from the public nationwide regarding possible violations of the federal voting rights laws through its call center,” the release explains. “The Civil Rights Division enforces the federal voting rights laws that protect the rights of all citizens to access the ballot.”
The monitor pool is reportedly comprised of personnel from the Civil Rights Division, the Office of Personnel Management, and state-based U.S. Attorneys’ Offices.
New Jersey’s redrawn congressional map features Middlesex encompassing pieces of NJ-06 (Frank Pallone) and NJ-12 (Bonnie Watson Coleman). Monmouth County Commissioner Sue Kiley is running against Pallone and, if a red wave crashes, some hope she could record a stunner and deliver a major GOP upset.
