It suffices to say Tammy Murphy’s U.S. Senate campaign is off to a brutal start, Save Jerseyans. So bad, in fact, that some are beginning to openly wonder whether she’ll secure the nomination.
Let’s recap the last few days:
On Thursday, The New York Times reported that Murphy campaign manager Max Glass had been let go. Firing a campaign manager this early is NEVER a promising sign.
On Saturday, Congressman Andy Kim won his home county of Burlington County by a wide margin. The victory wasn’t a shocker (it’s his home turf), but the margin (90.4% of the voting delegates) was signal-sending for sure especially given Kim’s prior win in Murphy’s adopted home county of Monmouth by a decisive margin.
Then, on Sunday, Kim won Hunterdon’s line with 62% of the vote. That’s a third straight convention win.
In terms of raw votes? Hunterdon and Monmouth are fairly red, so there aren’t a ton of Democrat primary voters there. Burlington is blue, but it’s not nearly as populous as the major North Jersey outposts like Hudson, Essex and Passaic which are supposed to be Murphy territory. We’ll see. The Northern bosses live in fear of a populist progressive revolt upending their respective grips on power. If Kimmentum continues? Things could get interesting quickly.
Ultimately, the story here is that his wasn’t supposed to be a story. This wasn’t supposed to be a race at all. The Democrat primary was supposed to be Murphy… in a walk. And that isn’t happening, so maybe anything can happen. Stay tuned.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer lady!
