Here’s a little afternoon update from Trenton, Save Jerseyans:
In an 8-0 unanimous vote this afternoon, the New Jersey Legislature’s Joint Committee on Ethical Standards initiated a formal investigation of Assemblyman Nelson Albano (D-Cumberland) pursuant to an ethics complaint filed by Edward Beck of Dennis Township.
Asm. Albano has been the subject of bipartisan condemnation ever since he falsely accused a state trooper of improper conduct following a routine 2012 traffic stop; his follow-up letter to the state police superintendent contained allegations that a squad car video recording later confirmed were completely baseless. The joint committee will now direct its attorneys to investigate the matter more fully. Whether they’re willing to reprimand their colleague so close to a general election remains an open question.
In other news, the Committee also dismissed a complaint filed against Sen. Tony Bucco (R-Morris) that concerned his role in sponsoring the recently adopted Fenimore Landfill legislation.
