In a vain attempt to promote unpromotable New Jersey, the Star-Ledger binges on list articles touting this, that or the other so-called “Garden State” unique, dare I say, “attractions,” with the latest the 19 places you need to visit in 2019.
Since our residency in the state terminates in 60 days, we’ll pass. Why will it terminate? From the article: “New Jersey is the nation’s most mocked, maligned and misunderstood state. It’s also the most interesting state.”
New Jersey is justly mocked and maligned for political, economic and cultural sins ranging from the worst taxes in America to corrupt politicians in both parties to a clueless governor who raises taxes to redistribute wealth from citizens to illegal aliens to overcrowding to potholed roads to you name it.
As for “misunderstood,” the truth is America understands Jersey too well.
And “the most interesting” brings to mind the old Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times.
No wonder New Jersey leads America in people leaving the state for better climes. Any place is better than here.
So, as we bid adieu to the mistake of New Jersey we say, with apologies to Shakespeare, parting is not such sweet sorrow, it’s just sweet.
