Save Rutgers: Rutgers Leaks New President’s Name, Official Announcement Tomorrow

Thanks to the quick eyes of an NJ.com commenter, we now know who will be taking President McCormick’s position as President of Rutgers University as the merger debacle presses on.

The new President will be Robert Barchi, who recently stepped down after 8 years as President of Thomas Jefferson University, a medical school in Philadelphia. The Board of Governor’s will be meeting in New Brunswick tomorrow at 10:30AM to receive and most likely approve Barchi’s nomination to the position.

Barchi comes into Rutgers during a very uncertain time. The merger plan looms over his head and people will want to know very quickly what his position is on it and the future of Rutgers in Camden and South Jersey as a whole. It is somewhat known that Governor Christie and President McCormick were not the biggest fans of one another, it will be interesting to see the dynamic between Christie and Barchi as things go forward.

  1. Here's the incoming Rutgers President's position on the "merger". McCormick won't be gone soon enough. He just may sign over the Camden campus before Barchi takes his new post, leaving him just the PR mess to clean up.
