Hugin says he won’t be lectured by “corrupt, womanizing” Menendez

TRENTON, N.J. — Bob Hugin (R-Union) isn’t taking allegations of sexism and bigotry lying down from the incumbent U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-Severely Admonished).

On Thursday, the former pharmaceutical executive and Republican nominee hit back at Menendez with strong language and a forceful defense, too.

“I won’t be lectured about respect for women by a corrupt, womanizing politician who continues to embarrass our state,” said Hugin in a tweet. “My record as a forward-looking leader and champion for equality in business stands on its own and puts you to shame, @SenatorMenendez.”

Menendez has been trying to make the most of a decades-old lawsuit against Hugin’s Princeton men’s club for excluding women; Menendez’s own public history, however, is rife with well-publicized ethical missteps and salacious allegations. The U.S. Senate’s ethics committee has ordered him to repay $1 million in improper gifts. But that’s only the most egregious example…

…there was also the time when Menendez used his power and influence to get a married friend’s girlfriend (and her sister) a U.S. visa. The friend: Dr. Salomon Melgen who has since been convicted of Medicare fraud.

Hugin and Menendez (and their super pac supporters) are likely to make this year’s surprisingly close race among the country’s most expensive and hard-hitting.
