FDA adviser contradicts Murphy Administration’s booster guidance

Sometimes it’s hard to find a coherent theme on the Left, Save Jerseyans, but if it’s anything, it’s the politicization of science.

The latest example:

Dr. Paul Offit serves as the director of the Vaccine Education Center at the prestigious Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He also serves on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s Vaccine Advisory Committee. His advice for parents? Youngsters should AVOID the latest generation of Covid-19 boosters. Writing for The Wall Street Journal last week, Dr. Offit pointed out that so-called “bivalent”vaccines appear less effective than earlier iterations of the boosters.

“[O]nly a select group are likely to benefit, and the evidence to date doesn’t support the view that a bivalent vaccine containing omicron or its subvariants is better than the monovalent vaccine,” wrote Offit. “The CDC risks eroding the public’s trust by overselling the new shot.”

The Murphy Administration has no such concerns. Apparently.

“As bivalent vaccines, these boosters will target both the original COVID-19 strain as well as the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron subvariants,” the Administration declared in a press release earlier this month. “Omicron is currently causing most U.S. COVID-19 cases and are predicted to circulate this fall and winter as well, according to the FDA.”

“As we continue to adapt our response to COVID-19 to protect public health, these new boosters have been updated to target commonly-circulating variants in order to guard individuals against severe illness this fall,” said Murphy. “I continue to encourage everyone to get vaccinated and to stay up to date on their boosters, as vaccines are our greatest tool in the fight against COVID-19.”

The new booster was tested on mice, not humans. But Murphy – whose administration wanted to fine nursing home staff for wearing masks mere weeks before they wanted citizens strung up for doing the opposite – wants you to trust the… science?

I’m going to keep writing it until everyone gets it: none of this is “science.” This is base service. The Left falls for anything that the Right questions; it’s contrarianism notwithstanding the fact that, as Dr. Offit warns, the risks to kids may outweigh the benefits.
