LD4: DelBorrello, a target of Machine spending, hopes Norcross is “exposed” in court

Fresh news of FBI and New Jersey Attorney General investigations into the dealings of George Norcross III, head of the South Jersey Democrat Machine, has one target of the machine’s largesse cheering on the state.

“The Norcross Political Machine has a history of bullying, corruption, and self-dealing that has spanned decades – instilling a cloud of fear and intimidation across South Jersey. It is one of the reasons I decided to run for State Senate this year in the 4th Legislative District,” said Chris DelBorrello, the LD4 GOP State Senate nominee.

A PAC tied to Norcross and his organization spent money in this June’s LD4 Republican primary attacking DelBorrello and his running mates with the presumed intent of influencing the outcome. Ultimately, the DelBorrello slate was successful, and the Senate candidate is hoping that the investigation churns up proof of the aforementioned alleged corruption.

“During my successful primary campaign, the Norcross Machine demonstrated how fearful they were of me and my Assembly running mates by using a Democrat, dark money Super PAC to meddle in our primary election. They failed…big time,” DelBorrello added. “This November, we will defeat them at the ballot box and restore good government to South Jersey, and I am hopeful that state and federal prosecutors will ultimately be successful in proving future charges that expose them in a court of law.”

DelBorrello and his running mates – former Buena Councilman Matt Walker and Amanda Esposito – are considered top prospects for generating GOP pick ups in the Democrat-controlled district. LD4 centers on Gloucester County (Washington Township is particular) as well as portions of Camden and Atlantic counties.

LD4 became a lead target for both parties when incumbent Democrat State Senator Fred Madden announced that he would not seek reelection; the recent redistricting process left LD4 slightly redder than it had been over the past decade.

The South Jersey contest between DelBorrello’s slate and that of Assemblyman Paul Moriarty is expected to be one of the most expensive legislative fights in state history.
