Don’t Count Her Out, But the Odds Continue to Grow Longer for Christie’s Democrat Challenger
It’s still pretty tempting to do after this week.
Let’s briefly review: another head-to-head poll showed Chris Christie leading his presumptive challenger Barbara “Buckle Up” Buono by a super-margin, this time 37-points. The popular Democrat mayor of a Sandy-ravaged town backed Christie for Governor. And she’s not alone standing under the rebel standard. Powerful Democrat bosses from Camden Co. to Essex continue to embrace the Republican incumbet who they’d apparently rather work with than a hapless liberal ideologue from the suburbs. The end result? What looks like Democrat recruitment problems in counties where they should be competitive in a gubernatorial cycle.
Veteran GOP consultant and our good friend Chris Russell said it best yesterday on NJTV, noting that while anything can happen over the next several months, “the chances of him slipping badly are getting dimmer and dimmer for Democrats.” Yup…
h/t NJ Today:
Buckle up, Barbara.
It’s going to be a bumpy ride if this week is any indication of what lies ahead in Election 2013.
