The tabloids love Governor Chris Christie’s verbal smackdowns at pressers and angry confrontations on the boardwalk.
All that matters is what YOU think, Save Jerseyans. And according to Patrick Murray, the director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, a solid majority of New Jerseyans approve of the job he’s doing… moreover, a plurality think the Governor is a net positive for the state’s image.
41% of state residents believe Christie helps New Jersey’s image across the country; only 29% (which is pretty much the Democrat legislature, its staffers, close donors and family) believe the opposite to be true.
The same poll out today found the Governor earning a commanding 52% approval rating while 36% disapprove. His numbers are actually slightly HIGHER among registered voters.
Along those lines, 61% think it’s a good thing that Governor Christie is expected to deliver the keynote address at next month’s GOP convention in Tampa. Only 24% dissent. “Governor Christie as the GOP keynote speaker is a slam dunk, at least as far as his current constituents are concerned,” concluded Murray.
Besides providing us with the latest confirmation of the Governor’s enduring popularity (and indicating that no one from the Governor’s base is jumping ship over his angry public outbursts), the latest Monmouth results tell us something else heading into the Governor’s reelect in 2013: at least at this point, voters aren’t offended by Christie’s frequent out-of-state political trips despite the Democrats best attempts to make hay out of them.
