Back on the job, Governor Chris Christie announced on Thursday that he is formally requesting federal assistance for damage sustained by New Jersey during Winter Storm Jonas.
The seventeen requested Major Disaster Declaration counties are Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Somerset, Union, and Warren counties.
“Based on the information presented to me, I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that an effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and the affected county and local governments, and that federal assistance is necessary to supplement the efforts and available resources of State, county, and local governments and disaster relief organizations,” said Governor Christie in a statement. “I am requesting Public Assistance for Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Somerset, Union, and Warren Counties. As part of this request for Public Assistance, I am specifically requesting snow assistance which includes snow removal, snow dumping, de-icing, and salting and sanding of roads for Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Somerset, Union, and Warren Counties. I am also requesting Hazard Mitigation Assistance state-wide.”

Governor Christie’s initial response to the storm drew strong criticism from both sides of the aisle. He had originally declared “no residual flooding damage” at the Jersey Shore from the New Hampshire campaign trail. Today’s request comes as Senate Democrats are holding a hearing on an alleged botched federal application for flooding-related aid with HUD.

Can we just say “the winter storm in January”? Do we really need to names the storms?
Statists gonna state.
Christie mocked the flooding, now he wants federal aid. I wish they would make him accountable for the money from Sandy.
But…… we just needed a mop according to him….
Where’s his mop?
Christie… accountable? you jest!!
So….what this bloviating pantload is telling us is that hardworking taxpayers in Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and other states ought to cough up loot to pay for asshats in Joisey who were too stupid and/or cheap to purchase flood insurance. Is that about right?
If this state wasn’t so financially mismanaged for decades, we wouldn’t need to beg for govt cheese.
Guess he realized he couldn’t do the job with a mop.
Time to get back to his job.
How about requesting federal aid for all the New Jersey taxpayers struck by the New Jersey State Congress!
