POLITICO: Christie angling to run Trump’s RNC

Politico is reporting Thursday that the New Jersey Governor is heavily lobbying the Trump inner circle to succeed Reince Priebus as Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Priebus is leaving the post this January to serves as President-elect Donald Trump’s White House Chief of Staff.

Christie’s history of party leadership is mixed.

A potent fundraiser, he is a chairman emeritus of the RGA where the two-term governor oversaw a fruitful 2014 gubernatorial cycle for the Republican Party but his stewardship of the NJGOP back in the Garden State, an organization that’s Assembly legislative caucus is now at its lowest membership level since Watergate, has been heavily criticized.

Christie assured the media (and trolled the political universe) earlier this week, insisting that he planned to finish his final term in office which expires January 2018.

Mere days beforehand, he also told NJ 101.5 that a hypothetical RNC job would be “a great opportunity to build on a Republican majority in the country.
