**** ELECTION 2015 RESULTS ****

12:25 a.m. – There are still some provision balloting issues to be resolved in LD2, LD11 and L16 but the final projected net loss for the NJ GOP looks like (-)3.

11:58 p.m. – LD16 is not looking good for incumbent Donna Simon (R) has seemingly survived (!), Save Jerseyans. Barely. Provisionals may come into play. Details…

11:10 p.m. – We can confirm (thankfully) that Chris Brown (R) has bucked tonight’s trend and survived a massive Democrat money attack in LD2. Details…

10:51 p.m. – CD3 campaign alum Aimee Belgard (D-Burlington) is no more, Save Jerseyans! And the Burlington GOP now has a 5-0 majority on its freeholder board. Details…

10:35 p.m. – For these keeping track, at the moment, the NJ GOP is on track to net lose three (3) Assembly seats…

10:32 p.m. – In what has been an otherwise disappointing evening for the Northern Shore GOP (losing LD11 and Marlboro), some very excellent news is crossing the wires: Art Gallagher says it’s a photo finish victory for the Republican slate in Red Bank! Details here.

10:13 p.m. – Fiocchi loses in LD1, continuing the GOP’s rough legislative evening…

10:10 p.m. – Some better news = Chris Brown (15,90 – 26.05%) is the top vote getter in LD2 with 95% reporting. Mazzeo second…

9:56 p.m. – Early optimism is fading, Save Jerseyans, with Republicans likely headed for defeat in both the Passaic and Bergen freeholder contests… e.g. in Bergen, Sullivan  (52,001) leads Republican John Mitchell by almost 10,000 votes.

9:48 p.m. – Casagrande likely defeated in LD11, Angelini trailing but close… click here for more info…

9:34 p.m. – John Cosgrove (R) is victorious in his Fairlawn reelection bid, Save Jerseyans, but without coattails for his running mates as hoped.

9:30 p.m.  – The GOP Assembly picture looks bleak. LD2, LD11 and LD16 (!) – all where the General Majority PAC spent big money in October – show signs of Republican danger right now… more soon…

9:02 p.m. BIG NEWS IN PASSAIC???

passaic

8:58 p.m. – Dangerous situation developing in LD11… though I’m told the remaining towns to be counted are GOP… the Dem spend a lot of money late here so we’ll find out shortly what impact it had:

ld11

8:50 p.m. – Save Jersey has it on good authority that the GOP will not retake Brick Township tonight. Not even close. With 36 of 57 districts reporting, the Republican slate is behind by 7+-points. It’s a significant blow for the Ocean GOP led by Chairman George Gilmore.

8:35 p.m. – We’re starting to get some Bergen results… in Rutherford, the GOP ticket of DeSalvo (Mayor), Nunziato, and Walker is apparently poised to sweep! And in North Arlington, too, and GOP Mayor Norman Schmelz looks to survive in blue Bergenfield. But Democrats have apparently swept in Oradell, the first (bad) shock of the night… [click here if you missed our Bergen-specific watch list]

8:07 p.m. – Everything is an anecdotal educated guess at this point, of course, but we spoke with one GOP GOTV source on the ground this evening who thinks Asm. Chris Brown (R) could be the top vote getter tonight in LD2, and that the real fight will be for 2nd place. Turnout in A.C. has reportedly been extra-light (including the 6th Ward where GOP’er Jesse Kurtz could win a council seat) which isn’t a promising development for Democrats despite some last minute labor support shipped in from the electrical workers’ union. We’ll see. Just passing on what we know… which isn’t much at this point…

8:01 p.m.Polls are now closed across New Jersey!

7:49 p.m. – Shocker of the night? See below. On mail-ins, we’re told Republican Joanie Walsh (Wayne) is in 2nd and Joe Cupoli (Clifton) sits within striking distance in the Passaic County freeholder race. That’d be huge news.

6:50 p.m. – So polls aren’t even closed yet, Save Jerseyans, but Republican sources tell Save Jersey that they’re now expecting 25% turnout in battleground Bergen County where control of the freeholder board is at stake. Report earlier in the day had suggested higher-than-expected turnout. Stay tuned as the rush hour crowd does its thing. Meanwhile, there are reports of Democrat nerves next door in Passaic. We’ll see soon enough if it’s caution, calculation, or a sign of a legitimate upset in one or more of the county contests.

The last time only the Assembly candidates sat atop the November ballot, way back in 1999, without state senate races? 31% statewide…

Developing…
